JF - DigitCult - Scientific Journal on Digital Cultures; Vol 5 No 1 (2020)DO - 10.4399/97888255361644 KW - N2 - The huge amounts of data available are a great resource and an extraordinary opportunity to improve the analytical possibilities, scientific applications and predictive capabilities of the eco-system. Thanks to "digital convergence", statistics have taken on a new role, with very pervasive ethical and moral implications in people's lives. Therefore, an adequate cultural elaboration is necessary for the technological potential to be understood and accepted. The world is increasingly becoming an info- sphere where the digital track we leave can represent both a loss of individual freedom and an opportunity to reduce social risks and individual dangers. Much will depend on who will manage the information. The commitment of the public regulator is extremely difficult: it will be necessary to rely on a network of subjects - even private and unconventional - and powerful technologies to offer reliable statistical information and defend against false or inconsistent sources. The citizen of the “knowledge society” must possess sensitivity, culture and good data in order to make informed choices. UR - https://digitcult.lim.di.unimi.it/index.php/dc/article/view/165
