Dal bosco al museo al giardino. Un racconto digitale su Giuseppe Penone

Dall’inizio del proprio percorso artistico e fino ad oggi, Giuseppe Penone ha realizzato opere che instaurano legami forti e via via più complessi con i luoghi in cui vengono realizzate o installate. Le prime opere, nei boschi intorno al paese natale, erano interventi realizzati sugli alberi ed esistevano in funzione di essi; tuttavia non modificavano sostanzialmente il significato complessivo del luogo nel quale si trovavano. Con alcuni esempi lungo tutta la carriera dell’artista, si tenta di illustrare come in Penone il rapporto tra opere e luoghi sia cambiato, culminando nella creazione del Giardino delle sculture fluidepresso la Reggia di Venaria Reale, vero e proprio luogo complesso, animato da contraddizioni che convivono armoniosamente tra di loro. Per le sue caratteristiche e per l’importanza che ricopre nel percorso di Penone, il Giardinodi Venaria si è reso quindi l’oggetto ideale per un esperimento di restituzione digitale del Cultural Heritage, un webdoc interattivo realizzato da tre studiosi, un docente e due collaboratori, nell’ambito del laboratorio CARMEL - Contemporary Art Media Lab. Si darà conto della sua struttura, come pure delle questioni di merito e di metodo che esso ha comportato.

From the beginning of his artistic career and until today, Giuseppe Penone has created works that establish strong and increasingly more complex bonds with the places where they are made or installed. The first works, in the woods around his birth town, were made on trees and they existed according to them; however, they did not substantially change the overall meaning of the place where they were located. With some examples throughout the artist's career, we try to illustrate how this relationship has changed, culminating in the creation of the Fluid Sculptures Gardenat the Royal Palace of Venaria Reale, animated by contradictions that harmoniously coexist. For its characteristics and for the importance it holds in the Penone artistic path, the Gardenof Venaria has become the ideal object of an interactive webdoc created by three scholars, a teacher and two collaborators, after the CARMEL - Contemporary Art Media Lab. This article aims to explain its structure, as well as the questions of matter and method that it has entailed.
