Computers as Theatre

Italian Translation of an Excerpt from Brenda Laurel’s Book. Editorial project by Mario Ricciardi, translation by Saverio Andriulli

  • Brenda Laurel

Abstract

Brenda Laurel’s life is both the subject and the background of her narrative. A narrative often revealing failures, but also a quest that leads Brenda to discover new perspectives. Eventually this perspective is offered by the theater, the stage and the suggestions of the play.
First there were video games and the history of the first computers. Then the legendary Engelbart presentation in 1968. Even a scientific demonstration can be a spectacle and the emotions and participation of the audience can enter the stage. In this historical journey of digital evolution, women have always been forgotten by those who design but also by those who own large groups such as Atari.
We have reached the decisive point in Brenda's story: the end of the first chapter of Computers as Theatre, here translated for Italian audiences.
